first day of school

Today is a special day for a member of the Nation. He begins a journey at the campus show above. This campus looked different from the time when we attended but we are certain the high quality of education is still near or at Ivy League level.

Help us all in wishing this member good luck in his quest and we want to hear results of each quiz, essay and exam taken during this and future semesters. We have an exclusive photo taken this morning at the cafeteria.

This is why we don’t subscribe to Sports Illustrated. Their college football preview edition for the western portion of the United States feature the overrated Boise State Broncos. Let’s see. Their first game is versus Virginia Tech. If you look at the cover, VT is ranked #10.

On the other hand, the retooled San Jose State Fightin Spartans take on preseason #1 and defending champions Alabama Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on September 4. We are ready to shock the world and demand SI put us on the cover for the September 7 issue. Get your popcorn ready!

dave’s service

Dave Vasquez’ service was held on Thursday night at Twin Lakes Church in Aptos, CA. The day consisted of sunny skies and the venue was located near Cabrillo College which didn’t have much activity since school isn’t in session. The place was far away from traffic that it provided the near-silence that a service for such a man deserved.

The church’s pastor didn’t spend too much time at the beginning to preach to the audience. Instead, he handed the microphone and stage to friends and family that wish to share a story or thought on the passing of Dave. We didn’t recognize the first speaker but I would assume that it was a business partner from Dave’s business. We recognized Carlos, Hilda, Dave Jr and Jennifer.

Carlos spoke eloquently about his childhood friend. He shared childhood and high school stories that brought the audience to laughs and tears. You could sense the love Carlos had for Dave and how much he would miss his brother at heart.

Once we saw that Dave Jr was going to take the stage, we knew that it was going to be emotional. The 11 year old showed strength and talked about how his father was his best friend. A great kid that we as a community need to assist in showing the right way to conduct oneself as a young adult.

And then there was Jennifer. We don’t know if anyone other than Jennifer knew a letter dictated by Dave existed and was to be read at his memorial. The letter communicated Dave’s love for his wife Maria and the gift of 2 children. Dave apologized to his family. Jennifer read Dave’s words as such, “I’m sorry that I am leaving you but God has another plan for me.”

Dave didn’t have a reason to apologize. He lived his life to the fullest and graced us during his journey.

Dave Vasquez was a person that was well thought of by the people that came to know him. He opened up his home and would ask about one’s family and well being. Good people like Dave are taken far too soon from us but we realizes that it’s a privilege to encounter people like him in this journey that we call Life.

You contributed to the people that we are just like everyone else that we can call a friend. The fellas that do reside in Watsonville will ensure that they are there for your family. You will be missed Dave but not forgotten. Descanse en paz.
